The Hugo Rug Collection by Baya is a contemporary checkerboard done with a much quieter hand. In Espresso, the design combines a rich espresso brown that makes the carved checkerboard pattern feel particularly defined, while hand-carved sections create subtle changes in height and shadow. The pattern is clear, but it does not shout across the room for attention.
Loom-knotted from 100% New Zealand wool, Hugo has a dense, supportive feel with a soft cut pile underfoot. It is a strong anchor for lighter furniture, warm whites and natural timber—dramatic enough to make a statement, but still very easy to live with. The cotton backing adds stability, while the substantial 15–18mm pile gives the carved pattern enough depth to show properly.

Visit our Belrose showroom to see the Espresso sample in person. The carved checkerboard and colour depth are far easier to appreciate off-screen, particularly when comparing it with your flooring and fabric samples.
